paper sculptor
Koji Nakamura
Koji Nakamura has been a creative paper sculptor since 1982. His early work was mainly colored three-dimensional, but he has changed his way to white paper, which indicates a pure world. His art-work is enhanced by light and shadow. Nakamura has several themes in his work and is presently aiming to find new himself through creation of his work.
From 1977 to 1985, Nakamura worked as a graphic designer for a local advertising agency. For these eight years he played an active part in the wide variety of field such as Òcorporate VIÓ, Ònewspaper advertisementÓ, Òhaving visual image built for CMÓ and Òlogo designÓ. An incentive prize was awarded by Shikoku Newspaper.
Nakamura found his own office Ð Nakamura Illustration in 1986 and has worked as a freelance paper sculptor. For the past 13 years he has working actively, specializing in advertising including Òcorporate PRÓ, Òtelevision CMÓ and Òcharacter designÓ. These years made his career as an illustrator firm.
From 1992 to 1995, Nakamura was engaged in educating young artists as an illustration instructor in Anabuki College of Design. In addition, he socially contributes to the spread of illustration by means of teaching the illustration for parents and children in various parts of Japan.
Recently he has increasingly received commissions of advertising, for example, ÒThe Japan Air LinesÓ in 1997, ÒThe Daiichi Kangyo BankÓ in 1998. He has been active throughout Japan.
Nakamura participated in Three Dimensional Illustration competition in the United States from 1994 to 1997 and won the first, second and third prizes. Nakamura is also highly appreciated by overseas for his speech at Center of Creative Studies in Detroit.

2002 Awarded the best illustrator prize in the postcard Contest of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, Shikoku.

** The Three Dimensional Illustration Award Ð is the only competition in the world for three dimensional illustrators and known as an international contest where three dimensional illustrators from more than 10 countries participate.
